About This Event

The 1st Asia Dengue Summit (ADS) was held in Bangkok, Thailand during 13-14 January 2016 and co-convened by four esteemed institutions: The Asian Dengue Vaccination Advocacy (ADVA), the Dengue Vaccine Initiative (DVI), Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Tropical Medicine and Public Health Network (SEAMEO TROPMED), and Fondation Merieux (FMx). The ADS creates an unique platform where dengue experts from different fields and participants from Asia-Pacific countries could interact fruitfully and benefit from each other’s research and experiences
Within the broader context of the outcomes of the Asia Dengue Summit, we recognise:
  • Dengue continues to be a major global public health threat
  • Vaccines would be useful
  • Licensure of the first dengue vaccine
  • Global Strategy for Dengue Prevention and Control
  • Adequate resources, Surveillance, Vector control, Vaccination programmes, High-quality care
  • Good science, communications, media, political leadership, public support
  • Ensure equity, sustainability, ethics and social justice

The co-hosts of the Asia Dengue Summit make the following Call on countries:
  • To develop and implement a carefully controlled stepwise programmatic introduction of dengue vaccine
  • To ensure that the programmes are monitored, tracked and evaluated
  • Various related initiatives to work closely together
  • Political will and commitment
  • Relevant organizations and institution to continue performing and supporting research to enhance the impact of vaccination
  • WHO and other global and regional organizations and initiatives to give high priority to dengue prevention and control
