A moment to remember…

In July 2008, Indonesia had successfully presented the 4th Asian Congress of Pediatric Infectious Disease in conjunction with the 14th Indonesian Congress of Pediatrics in Surabaya, East Java. The congress, which involved over 50 eminent experts from Indonesia and over 40 international speakers worldwide, It was participated by over 1200 participants from all over the world. It was opened by Mr. Bambang Dwi Hartono, Major of Surabaya and attended by some expert in infectious diseases such as president of WSPID, Prof. Ron Dagan, MD; expert from WHO, Prof. Kim Mulholland, MD; discoverer of rotavirus, Dr. Ruth Bishop; and other expert in pediatric infectious diseases, Prof. Lulu C Bravo, Prof. Usa Thisyakorn, and Prof. Somsak Lolekha. With full support from the ASPID Committee and East Java Branch of Indonesian Pediatric Society, the local organizing committee directed by Prof. Sri Rezeki Hadinegoro as the President of the Congress, had certainly accomplished a very satisfying achievement.

With “Current Challenges of Pediatric Infectious Diseases” as the main theme, the 4th ACPID had introduced the latest perspectives in pediatric world and even more, to picture the future perspectives for the next generation. The Congress was divided into three main programs: Meet the Experts in the mornings - which gave the floor an opportunity to exchange ideas and discuss cases; followed by Plenary Sessions - with overview presentations by the experts; and the Simultaneous Symposia - in morning and afternoon sessions, which divided into four parallel symposium and each consisted 3-4 speakers, to present detailed viewpoints of the current challenges in pediatric world. With such abundant topics presented, each scientific session had been a remarkable educational experience for all participants. None the last, in order to expand the opportunities for the young generations to publish their studies and researches, the Congress also invited them through the Poster Session and the Young Researchers Award session.

In this occasion we also launch ACPID stamp, Finally, to make all the participants more acquainted with Indonesia, the committee also prepared abundant attraction of the folks traditional culture in Cultural Night session, and a city tour for all the accompanying persons to Surabaya most favored places.
